Judo Stars Rise: First EUSA Combat 2023 Judo Medal Winners

ZAGREB, July 21, 2023 – First day of Judo competitions kicks off at "Dom sportova 2" with French and Ukrainian universities leading the medal count.

Gold medals were earned by Maxime Ignaczak (60 kg) from the University of Strasbourg (FRA), Andreas Vida (66 kg) from Szechenyi University Gyor (HUN), and Artem Ros (73 kg) from Ukraine.
Maxime Ignaczak, the 60 kg champion, expressed his joy: "Everything went according to plan, just as we hoped. It's been a wonderful day, and I'm satisfied with my decision to come here."

Andreas Vida, the 66 kg gold medalist, added: "Being the best in this category is fantastic. It wasn't easy at all; it took a lot of training and focus to achieve success. Other competitors, especially from France and Georgia, were outstanding."

Silver medals were won by Marius Chatonnet (FRA, 60 kg), Levente Hegedus (HUN, 66 kg) and Tornike Grigalashvili (GEO, 73 kg). Bronze medals were awarded to Mathias Moreau (FRA, 66 kg), Gigi Otiashvili (GEO, 66 kg), Anton Shuhalieiev (UKR, 73 kg), and Serhii Nebotov (UKR, 73 kg).

The gold medals went to Coralie Gilly (48 kg) from the University of Bordeaux (FRA), Ukrainian representative Tetiana Limzaieva (52kg), and Jana Zeigler (57 kg) from the University of Potsdam (GER).

Coralie Gilly, the 48 kg gold medalist, shared her excitement: "I'm thrilled because it's my first time winning a gold medal. The first fight was a bit tight, but as I progressed, I gained more confidence in myself and my victory."

Silver medals were secured by Ashleigh Barnikel (GBR, 48 kg), Roza Gyertyas (HUN, 52 kg), and Anđela Samarđić (BIH, 57 kg). Bronze medals were won by Lisa Dengg (AUT, 48 kg), Aurora Cabane (FRA, 57 kg), and Sophie Puechel (GER, 57 kg).

On the first day, participants competed in the categories of 48 kg, 52 kg, 57 kg, 60 kg, 63 kg, 66 kg, and 73 kg. The second day feature matches in the categories of 70 kg, 78 kg, 81 kg, 90 kg, 100 kg, and over 100 kg at "Dom sportova 2." Women's 63kg category final set to take place on Sunday.
