Kicking to Victory: EUSA Combat 2023 Crowns Karate Champions

 

ZAGREB, July 23, 2023 - Zagreb witnessed an exhilarating finale of EUSA Combat 2023 as the last day of karate competitions showcased final matches in all weight categories, including the team events. The climactic moment arrived when the medals were distributed, and the grand closing ceremony marked the end of the prestigious event.

MEN'S CATEGORY

In the men's division, outstanding performances were displayed by top-notch athletes. The gold medalists included Duran Kutluhan (Kata) from Istanbul Aydin University (TUR), Burak Ozdemir (-60 kg) from Gazi University (TUR), Vladyslav Shveda (-67 kg) from Odesa Mechnikov National University (UKR), Petar Zaborski (-75 kg) from ST. Kliment Ohridski University of Bitola (MKD), Nikola Malović (-84 kg) from the University of Montenegro (MNE), and Fatih Sen (+84 kg) from Bursa Uludag University (TUR).

Standing tall with silver medals were Mijač Vladimir (Kata) from Adriatik University Bar (MNE), Yurii Mosiichuk (-60 kg) from Lviv State University of Physical Culture (UKR), Valentyn Najda (-67 kg) from the National University of Physical Education and Sport of Ukraine, Kostiantyn Yanenko (-75 kg) from the National University of Physical Education and Sport of Ukraine (UKR), Enrik Smoligan Julian (-84 kg) from Comenius University (SVK), and Karlo Raguž (over 84 kg) from the University of Zagreb (CRO).

Duran Kutluhan from Istanbul Aydin University (TUR) clinched the gold in Kata. He shared his joy, stating, "It's an excellent feeling, especially after winning the national championship a week ago. Years of hard work have led to this success, and the next stop is the World Championship in Budapest."

The gold in Men's Team Kata went to the University of Nottingham, with Istanbul Aydin University securing the silver.

In Kumite Team events, ST. Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje (MKD) claimed the gold, while the Kharkiv State Academy of Physical Culture (UKR) settled for silver.

The women's division also witnessed exceptional talent on display. Gold medals were earned by Fernandez Natacha (kata) from the University of Lisbon (POR), Ema Sgardelli (-50 kg) from the University of Rijeka (CRO), Liliia Yushyna (-55 kg) from Zaporizhzhya State Medical University(UKR), Reem Khamis (-61 kg) from the University of Hamburg (GER), Vasilisa Buić (68 kg) from the Faculty of Business and Management (MNE), and Theodosia Giamouki (+68 kg) from the University of Cyprus (CYP).

The women's silver medalists were Toth Vanda from the University of Miskolc (HUN), Dicle Beyazit (-50 kg) from Istanbul Aydin University (TUR), Syria Mancinelli (-55 kg) from the University of Rome Foro Italico (ITA), Natalia Osadchuk (-61 kg) from South Ukrainian National Pedagogical University (UKR), Melinda Marmot (-68 kg) from EPITA - School of Engineering and Computer Science (FRA), and Stefani Kresić (+68 kg) from the University of Tuzla (BIH).

Reen Khamis from the University of Hamburg secured the gold in the -61 kg category, expressing her delight, "It's an incredible feeling to win a gold medal, especially in such a prestigious competition. It's particularly special when you return from a serious injury to claim the top spot."

In Women's Team Kumite, the University of Rijeka (CRO) claimed the gold, while the silver was awarded to the South Ukrainian National Pedagogical University K.D. Ushinskogo (UKR). The day was full of excitement and excellence, celebrating the skill and determination of these remarkable karate athletes.
